Guys, thanks for all your kind comments and support. We got home tonight to get some time to ourselves and catch up on household stuff. I showed George this thread and he asked me to say thank you to you all.
His mum had been sick for about seven months now. She was able to make our wedding back in June and thoroughly enjoyed the day(s) out. After an operation 2 months ago she had several setbacks and was a lot weaker, but was allowed home a few weeks ago. She seemed to be doing well until Sat night, when she took a turn. She passed on peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, surrounded by her family.
The last few days have been difficult, but a necessary part of the grieving process... At her funeral yesterday the whole family were stunned by the sheer volume of mourners that travelled from all over the country - not only was the church full, but several hundred people listened to the service outside as well. Everyone had a story to share about how Cherry had influenced their lives, made them smile, looked after them in times of need. She was a very special person indeed, and I feel privileged to have known her and been accepted into her family.
