Both Twenty Major & I received the exact same spam text from NTL this morning. Weird in that it ends with 'text stop to opt out'

Did anyone else receive this: For just E7.50/mth you can pause rewind & record all your favourite TV shows from ntl using our new DVR service. Visit ntl.ie for details. To opt out reply Stop.

They text us to confirm appointments etc - I'm not sure if there is anything on that form that one signs upon installation which gives them the permission to text offers etc.

The offer is buried on the website, which strikes me as weird if they're doing a spam publicity campaign for this. I'm also pretty sure that I'm signed up with them as no contact other than bills. I just have a really weird feeling about this.

Marketing people need to be taken out and paddled... Trying to find out information on ntl.ie on the DVR is difficult and then the level of info is really poor.

That's what I'm wondering. Either they are using the mobile numbers stored in a different database for marketing purposes, or they have got a list of mobile numbers from somewhere else. It this keeps popping up amongst bloggers that have been to similar events together, then I'd be worried about a data leak...

Twenty isn't a customer either, he only provided his mobile to them as a callback number during a complaint to them about mail spam.

Looks like I missed to 'opt-out' box on the delivery form. Calling them now to rectify that.

Oh I thought twenty was a customer - something in my head about twenty using the c word about them before - maybe it's spam... I'm a customer that they don't seem to know how to take money off properly. When opting out Elly can you opt out of all the pieces of mail that they send apart from the bill?

At least the hold music on the billing section isn't broken like the technical support line - which plays 2 bars, apologises to you and then repeats infinitely...

However, considering that they have changed their contact number to 1908, it would have been nice of them to update it on their website...

Yeah, I've just realised that I haven't had a bill since June... And of the 6 bills I've received, they have been for 5 different amounts...

dunno, I'm calling from the house line which is blueface VOIP, never tried from a mobile.

Call NTL on 1908 and change your communication preferences to opt-out of all forms of marketing messages. use the options to go through to billing support who can do that for you.

Oh yes, and don't bother going to the website to get info on the DVR, the page is broken and won't load. Support says 'it's because we are merging with Chorus this week, a lot of our systems are broken or working slowly'.

Sarcasm Nice, gives me confidence in you, really...

And don't bother reporting the spam to the legless ineffective data protection commisssioners. I did re. the recent spate of Golden Spiders spamming and got nowhere. Blogged it here: http://brightspark-consulting.com/blog/?p=410
